What the experts say

The iX5 is BMW's first really cutting-edge large luxury full-electric SUV. Building on the legacy of the brand's 400V iX, this electric X5 takes the concept of an EV crossover to the next level with a class-leadingly large battery.

“Revisiting your x” by Jonathan Crouch · 6 min read · updated 1 October 2026
Pairing Neue Klasse EV technology and design with combustion-derived CLAR underpinnings, BMW's iX5 aims to redefine what a full-electric BMW Sports Activity Vehicle can be.
The huge battery's driving range sets new class standard - but then so does this car's near-3 tonne kerb weight. The new 800V powertrain benefits from all kinds of more recent elements from BMW's sixth generation eDrive technology that sets this iX5 apart from the existing iX model it indirectly replaces. These include the cylindrical battery cells we first saw on the iX3, which took some careful packaging into a battery that's now integral to the chassis.
A new kind of big BMW EV then. Does it set a new standard? Let's see.

Good to know
The questions we get asked most.
Straight answers on what this rental covers, how soon you could have the car and what happens once you get in touch. If your question is not here, just ask.
Does this price include VAT?
No. This is a business contract hire rental, quoted excluding VAT. The monthly figure assumes the term, mileage and initial rental shown, and your final figures are confirmed in writing before you sign anything.
What is included in the monthly rental?
The vehicle itself, on business contract hire for the term and mileage you choose. Servicing, maintenance and insurance are not part of the rental quoted here, so ask us if you want them costed alongside it. We confirm exactly what your agreement covers in writing before you sign.
How long will delivery take?
It varies by make and specification, from a few weeks for vehicles already in the country to several months for a factory order. We confirm the lead time for this specific vehicle before you commit.
What happens if I go over the mileage?
You pay an excess mileage charge per mile over the contracted total, set out in your agreement before you sign. If you expect higher mileage it is almost always cheaper to contract for it up front.
What happens after I enquire?
A specialist confirms availability, lead times and final figures in writing. If you go ahead, we handle funder approval, the order and delivery, and confirm exactly what your agreement covers in writing before you sign.
Can you quote for more than one vehicle?
Yes. Tell us how many vehicles you need and roughly when, and we will come back with options and pricing across the whole requirement rather than one car at a time.
